Biography
Received a theological education. He taught science in Beach, Lorraine . He worked on the description and classification of insects. Later, his works and publications became one of the sources for describing and classifying entomologists at the beginning of the 20th century, in particular with respect to parasitoid wasps , midges, and mosquitoes .
J.-J. Kieffer in 1904 received the honorary degree of Doctor honoris causa at the University of Strasbourg .
In honor of J.-J. Kiffer was named several genera and species of insects, including:
- Kiefferia, Gallic family
- Kiefferulus, Mosquito-ringing family
- Kiefferomyia, the Baby Root Family (now included in Kieffer's own genus Schizohelea)
