Utochkin, Yuri Ivanovich

Yuri Ivanovich Utochkin was born on October 25, 1946.

In 1971, he graduated with honors from the Moscow Institute of Steel and Alloys .

1971-1974 - Full-time graduate student at the Moscow Institute of Steel and Alloys.

1974-1988 - Associate Professor at the Department of Electrometallurgy of Steel and Ferroalloys.

1988-1991 - Vice-rector for evening and correspondence courses at the Moscow Institute of Steel and Alloys.

1991-2000 - Professor of the Department of Electrometallurgy of Steel and Ferroalloys of the Moscow Institute of Steel and Alloys.

Since 2000 - Director of the Center for Metallurgy, Director for Scientific and Technical Development of PJSC "United Machine-Building Plants".

All the while working at PJSC "United Machine-Building Plants" continued to engage in scientific and teaching activities. Now he is a professor at the Department of Steel Metallurgy, New Production Technologies and the Protection of Metals of NUST "MISiS" ^[1] .

July 28, 2016 removed from the board of PJSC OMZ ^[2] . Now holds the position of Deputy General Director - Technical Director of the company.

Yu.I. Utochkin belongs to the second generation of graduates of the Physics and Chemistry Department of MISiS, which contributed a lot to the development of new ideas and solutions on key issues of physical chemistry in metallurgy.

Shortly after graduation, MISiS completed a scientific work related to the thermodynamic stability of high-temperature systems that allow predicting the processes of refining liquid metal. This work became the basis for his Ph.D. thesis, defended in 1974 on the topic "Studying the role of the properties of phase interfaces in the removal of non-metallic inclusions from steel" ^[3] .

In the same year, he was invited to work at the Department of Electrometallurgy of Steel and Ferroalloys, where he developed research areas related to the study of sorption slag mixtures, complex refining of liquid melts, and others. On these issues in 1987 he defended his doctoral dissertation. Under the leadership of Yu.I. Utochkina completed and defended his dissertation for 20 people. As a visiting professor, he worked at the University of London .

Yu. I. Utochkin is the initiator of the creation of the specialization "Informatics and Entrepreneurship in Metallurgy" at NUST "MISiS". He was the chief editor of the journal "Electrometallurgy", a member of the editorial boards of several industry scientific journals.

Yu.I. Utochkin is a laureate of the Prize of the Council of Ministers of the USSR , an honorary metallurgist of the Russian Federation, an honorary worker in higher education, and has government awards.
