Kugama

Kugama ( eng. Kugama ) - the Adamawa -Ubangi people inhabiting the eastern part of Nigeria , the area south of the Benue River, east of the village of Apava and north of the village of Yada ( region of Adamawa ) [1] [2] [3] . The kugama people speak the idiom of the adamawa -ubangian family of the niger-congolese macro family . According to some data, this idiom is an independent language - Kugama [6] [7] [8] . According to other data, this idiom, known as Kugama-Gangle, or Gogleg-Kugam, is a language common to the Kugam and Gangle peoples (“Kugama” and “Gngle” mean two equal versions of the name of the language and the names of two close to each other dialects ) [9] [10] . The number of speakers of Kugama, according to data published in the Ethnologue Language Reference Guide, is about 5,000 (1995). Representatives of the Kugama people in various areas of their settlement, in addition to their mother tongue, also speak the closely related Adamawa -Ubangi languages ​​of the gengle , Kumba and Yendang , the Dzhukunoid language of the Djib and the Western Chad language of the Haus [2] .

Most of the Kugama people adhere to traditional beliefs (80%), some of them are Muslim (10%) and Christianity (10%) [1] .
