George Papadopoulos ( Greek Γιώργος Παπαδόπουλος , born George 1987 Demetrios Papadopoulos ; born 1987 , Chicago , Illinois , USA ) is an American statesman and political adviser to the presidential campaign of Donald Trump in 2016 . Director of the International Center for Energy Law and Natural Resources Law at the London Center for International Law Practice (since 2015) [1] .

Biography

Born in Chicago ( Illinois , USA ) in a family of Greeks - immigrants from the city of Thessaloniki ( Greece ) [2] .

In 2009, he graduated from De Paul University with a bachelor of arts degree in Political Arts & Government.

In 2010, he received a master 's degree in security science from University College London , as well as a master's degree in another specialty from the London School of Economics and Political Science ( UK ).

In June-August 2008, he was a scientific analyst at the American-Greek Institute .

In 2011-2015 - a researcher at the Hudson Institute . During this period, he focused on international relations in the Eastern Mediterranean and organized the first conference on the development of geopolitical relations between the USA, Israel , Greece and Cyprus [3] .

In 2012, he represented the United States at the UN Model in Geneva ( Switzerland ).

In 2015-2016, he was an adviser in the presidential campaign of Ben Carson [4] .

In May 2016, as an adviser, he joined the presidential campaign of Donald Trump [5] . In March-September, he filed at least six applications for a meeting between Trump and Russian politicians, for which once in May he was refused by Paul Manafort [6] [7] . In September, he gave an interview to the Russian news agency Interfax on Russian-American relations, in which he said that Barack Obama had promised to cooperate with Russia, but did not fulfill it [8] [9] [10] .

In October 2017, Senator Richard Burr , the head of the U.S. Senate commission to investigate Russia's possible interference in the 2016 US presidential election , said that the commission he led became interested in Papadopoulos, in particular, the emails sent to him when he tried to arrange a meeting between Trump and the Russian president Vladimir Putin [11] [12] .
