DescriptionSmall reddish-brown ants about 5 mm long with long prickles of metathorax. Body with long hairs. Head oval, elongated, head length from 1.30 to 1.41 mm; head width from 1.10 to 1.25 mm. Scape of the antennae of workers is bent at the base, but without a tooth or blade on the bend). The scapus is of medium length (its length is from 1.10 to 1.12 mm); it does not exceed the occipital edge of the head. The stalk between the breast and the abdomen consists of two segments: the petiolus and the postpetiolus (the latter is clearly separated from the abdomen), the sting is developed, the pupae are bare (without cocoon ). The belly is smooth and shiny. Features of biology have not been investigated [1] .
SystematicsIt is close to the species from the group Myrmica pachei -group by the shape of the base of the antennae of workers and other features. Similar with species such as M. pachei , M. pleiorhytida and M. mifui . The species was first described in 2016 by Chinese entomologists and Zh. Chen ( Zhilin Chen ; Guangxi Key Laboratory of Rare and Endangered Animal Ecology, Guangxi Normal University , Guilin , Guangxi ), Sh. Zhou ( Shanyi Zhou ; College of Life Sciences, Guangxi Normal University) and J. Huang ( Jianhua Huang ; College of Forestry, Central South University of Forestry and Technology , Changsha , Hunan , China ). The name of the species M. dongi is given in honor of the famous Chinese artist Dong Qichan ( Chinese trad. 董其昌 , pinyin : Dǒng Qíchāng , 1555-1636) from the time of the Ming Empire rule [1] .
