History
The party was founded in 1953 by William Cartwright, Cyril Stevenson and Henry Milton Taylor. [1] The Progressive Liberal Party was the first national political party in the Bahamas. [one]
The PLP was ruling for 30 years from 1967 to 1992, when it was led by Linden Pindling , who became the first Prime Minister of the Bahamas. At this time, the party nationalized some private companies.
In 1992-2017, the party was led by Perry Christie . The party constituted the majority in 2002-2007 and 2012-2017. After losing the election in 2017, Perry Christie resigned and the party was led by Philip Davis.
