Canon pellix

Canon Pellix is a small format single - lens reflex camera manufactured by Canon since 1965 in Japan . The model became the first production camera in the world in which instead of a hinged one, a stationary translucent mirror was used, which divides the light from the lens into two parts, directed to the film and to the viewfinder .

Technical Features

The Canon Pellix camera was also the first model of the company equipped with objective measurement . In this case, the CdS photoresistor is mounted on a hinged lever located in front of the metal shutters of the focal shutter , and rising when the aperture repeater is pressed. Thus, the light transmission of a translucent mirror reflecting a third of the light flux into the pentaprism viewfinder was automatically taken into account. A 0.02 mm thick mirror was made from Mylar and divided the light in a proportion of 33:67, passing most of it through the frame window. The principle of a fixed mirror, first implemented in this model, made it possible to eliminate a number of disadvantages of the single-lens circuit, such as vibration and dimming of the viewfinder at the time of shooting [1] . Another possibility of an increased film drawing speed was not realized due to the lack of a motor drive [2] .

At the same time, the noise of the camera unexpectedly remained at the same level as that of traditional "DSLRs". The inevitable contamination of the mirror with frequent change of lenses led to a deterioration in image quality, and accidental damage to a thin film interrupted the alignment of the focusing path [3] . In addition, the brightness of the viewfinder, which received only a third of the light flux from the lens, was significantly lower than that of models with a moving mirror. A decrease in the amount of light reaching the film was expressed in a decrease in the effective aperture of the lenses . The model was equipped with super fast 50 / 1.4 and 50 / 1.2 lenses to compensate for this drawback. The exposure was measured with the diaphragm closed to the operating value, which reduced the efficiency and accuracy. In this case, only partial measurement was available in the area coinciding with the area of the sensor on the hinged lever [4] .

Canon Pellix QL

In 1966, the base model was replaced by a modification of QL, supplemented by a simplified film charging system. This is what the abbreviation QL stands for, decrypted as English. Quick loading . Another improvement was the auxiliary contacts of the battery compartment, designed to connect an attached “booster” built-in exposure meter .
