Shtofnaya Bench - a drinking establishment in the Russian Empire , where alcohol was sold at retail in sealed bottles- takeaways [ specify ] ). The fine shops were often small or fruit shops, where the sale of alcohol was a passing source of income.
Damn shops, along with buckets , were established by order of August 3, 1818 [1] . In the 1860s and 1870s, the government deliberately pursued a policy of separating the trade in alcohol from other types of trade in order to simplify the collection of taxes. As a result, the damn shops practically disappeared, they were supplanted by other institutions of the "lower" category - taverns .
