Biography
Born on December 15, 1946 in the urban-type settlement Novogireevo (now within Moscow).
In 1970 he graduated from the Moscow Finance Institute (now Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation ) with a degree in international economic relations.
In December 1969, being a student-intern at the university, he was assigned to work in the foreign exchange and cash management operations department of the Bank for Foreign Trade of the USSR, where he consistently worked as an international exchange operations operator, international exchange operations manager, and deputy general manager. In 1973, he became head of the currency operations department of the foreign exchange and cash operations department and later - deputy head of the currency operations department of Vneshtorgbank of the USSR . [1] Member of the CPSU since 1976.
In 1980, he was appointed Deputy Chairman of the Board and General Manager of the Moscow People's Bank in London . In 1984, he returned to Moscow, became the head of the currency department of Vneshtorgbank of the USSR. In 1986 - member of the board, head of the main currency and economic department of the State Bank of the USSR . In 1989, Ponomarev again left for Europe - in Paris, he worked as general director and chairman of the board of the Commercial Bank for Northern Europe ( Eurobank ). He worked here in 1998; in the same period, he was chairman of the Committee for Operational Management of Vnesheconombank of the USSR (in 1992) and chairman of the board of directors of the Moscow bank Eurofinance , a subsidiary of Eurobank (since 1993). In 1998-1999, Ponomarev - Chairman of the Board of the Moscow People's Bank in London; in 1999-2002 - President and Chairman of the Board of Vneshtorgbank .
