After the curtain ( English Afterplay ) - one-act play of the Irish playwright Brian Friel 2002. The plot revolves around two characters from the works of Russian writer Anton Pavlovich Chekhov (Sonya from " Uncle Vanya " and Andrei from Three Sisters ) who meet each other in Moscow in the 1920s.
Stage
The premiere of the play took place on the stage of the Gate Theater in Dublin in 2002 [1] . It was later staged at the Gilgud Theater in 2002 under the direction of director Robin Lefebvre and starring John Hurt and Penelope Wilton [2] [3] [4] .
Another production took place at the Royal Theater in Edinburgh in 2009. The main roles were played by Francis Barber and Niall Buggy. Mark Fisher, a reviewer for The Guardian , spoke of the play as follows: “... according to Friel’s plan, Andrei and Sonya meet by chance and still experience the emotional burden of old memories ” [5] .
The 2014 production of the Crucible Theater was played by actors Niv Cusack (as Sonya) and Sean Gallagher (as Andrei) [6] [7] .
The next production of the play took place in New York on Off Broadway in the Irish Repertory Theater on October 2, 2016. The director is Joe Dowling, starring Dermot Crowley and Dirble Molloy . The New York Times reviewer wrote the following about her: “ their dialogues sound as if they were not invented in advance, their monologues are sincere and open. Each hero listens to the other with visible compassion and compassion ” [8] .
