Main article: UEFA Champions League 2018/2019 (rosters)

In the 2018/2019 Champions League draw, 79 teams from 54 UEFA football associations participated ( Liechtenstein did not participate, as the home championship is not held there). The number of places was distributed according to the UEFA coefficient table after the 2015/2016 European Cup season.

So, in the season 2018-2019, quotas were distributed as follows:

  • Associations with a rank of 1–4 were declared by 4 teams
  • Associations with a rank of 5-6 declared 3 teams
  • Associations with a rank of 7-15 were declared by 2 teams
  • Associations with a rank of 16–55 (except Liechtenstein) declared 1 team each

This is the fourth draw of the tournament, in which the winner of the UEFA Europa League was entitled to participate, regardless of the place taken in the national championship, but the corresponding team ( Atlético ) already entered the tournament through the championship of their country.

Association Rating

The rating of football associations and, accordingly, the distribution of places in the 2018/2019 Champions League among countries were formed on the basis of the UEFA odds table , which for this draw took into account the results of clubs in official European club competitions from the 2012/2013 season to the 2016/2017 season inclusive; the table below [2] :

Changes in the distribution of teams

Due to the fact that the winner of the Champions League 2017/18 Real Madrid received a ticket to the Champions League 2018/19 through the national championship, he was replaced by the champion of the association, which ranks 11th in the rating (Czech Republic). Subsequent changes:

  • Association Champion 11 (Czech Republic) in the playoff qualification round (Champions Way) was replaced by Association Champion 13 (Netherlands).
  • The place of Association Champion 13 (Netherlands) in the third qualifying round (Champions Path) was taken by Association Champion 15 (Austria).
  • The champions of associations 18 and 19 (Denmark and Belarus) played in the second qualifying round (Champions Way).

Due to the fact that the winner of the European League 2017/18 “Atletico” received a ticket to the Champions League 2018/19 through the national championship, his place was taken by the 3rd team of the association, which ranks 5th in the rating (France). Subsequent changes:

  • In the second qualifying round (Non-Champion Qualification) 4 teams instead of 6 teams played (silver medalists of associations 12-15: Switzerland, the Netherlands, Greece, Austria).
  • In the third qualifying round (Non-Champion Qualification), instead of 5 teams, 6 started (the third team of the association 6 (Russia), silver medalists of associations 7-11: Portugal, Ukraine, Belgium, Turkey, Czech Republic).
