At the time of Eritrea's entry into Ethiopia, clubs from Eritrea several times managed to become champions and medalists of the Ethiopian Premier League. So, in 1974, Embassoria became the champion, in 1972 and 1973, Asmara became the champion of Ethiopia, and in the 1969 and 1970 seasons, the club became a champion from Asmara. Also, clubs from Eritrean territory became champions of Ethiopia in 1959 (“Tele”), 1958 (“Akale Guzai”), 1957 and 1955 (“Hamasien”).
Eritrea is one of the least developed countries in Africa, not only economically, but also in terms of football. Therefore, the Eritrean national team is one of the weakest teams in the world, and is in the very last lines of the FIFA rankings . Accordingly, the Eritrean national football championship - the Eritrean Premier League is one of the least prestigious national championships in Africa. For example, after the season of 2014 , there is no reliable information about the conduct of subsequent seasons ( 2015 , 2016 , 2017 ) of the Eritrean Premier League, and apparently, they were not conducted. On the official FIFA website, there is also no information about this league over the past few years.
The Eritrea Cup National Cup is the Eritrea Cup. There is no reliable and complete information about this tournament.
In recent years, Eritrean clubs are not participating in either the KAF Champions League or the KAF Confederation Cup . Although in the 1990s and until the mid-2000s, clubs from Eritrea periodically participated in these tournaments, although they did not achieve much success, stopping already at the stage of qualifying rounds.
