The presidential election in Rwanda was held on August 4, 2017 . Rwandan President Paul Kagame received 98.79% of the vote and was re-elected for a third seven-year term [1] .

Election Context
The 2015 constitutional referendum approved a constitutional amendment that allowed Paul Kagame to run for a third term. Although the term was reduced from 7 to 5 years, this rule comes into force starting in 2024 [2] .
Election System
The President of Rwanda is elected in one round by a simple majority vote [3] .
