History

In the middle of the 13th century, Albrecht Devin was part of the castle, which is now the northern wing [1] . In 1280, the building became the property of the Meissen clan. In 1320–29, the owners expanded the castle. The west wing and the tower were attached to the building. The walls were fortified and connected to the walls of nearby houses [1] . In 1355, the building became the property of von Bieberstein. At the beginning of the XV the castle was expanded, and the next century began the restoration of the oldest part of the castle. In 1558, the castle was bought by von Promnitz. In the XVIII century the facade of the castle was decorated. Since 1824, the castle served as a prison. In 1930, a museum was opened in the castle, which existed until 1945 [1] . In 1710-1728, a baroque palace was built near the castle. In 1945, the castle was destroyed by fire.

The architecture of the castle, combining Gothic and Renaissance, has remained unchanged to this day. Four parts of the castle surround the courtyard. Dungeons have vaulted ceilings. The tower [1] rises above the southern entrance.
