Pilat, Tadeusz Zygmunt

The son of Stanislav Pilate (writer, teacher, diary author) and Radolfins from Gnatovskys, Roman's brother (literary historian, professor at Lviv University) and Vladislav (economist and sociologist, and professor at Lviv University). He studied at a secondary school in Lviv (until 1862), from 1862 to 1867 he studied law at the University of Lviv.

Since 1872. Professor of Law and Statistics, Lviv University (1886/1887 rector); in 1867, received a doctorate in law on the basis of labor "Zdania ze of all umiejętności prawniczych i politycznych". After graduation, he got a job in the administration of the governorship in Lviv (until 1872). In 1869 he was an assistant professor at the Department of Social Economics, Lviv University. Received nostrification of administrative law (1870) and statistics (added studios at the Prussian School of Statistics in Berlin) (1871).

In 1872 he was appointed adjunct professor at the University of Lviv, worked at the department of statistics and science administration; In 1878 he received the position of professor. He performed the duties of the dean of the faculty of law and administration (four times: 1880/1881, 1884/1885, 1889/1890, 1900/1901), rector (1886/1887), vice-rector (1887/1888).

In 1908 he received the Austrian nobility of the second degree (the title of "Ritter").

In 1876-1914 - a member of the Sejm , where he was one of the leaders of the political group of the so-called Athenians. For several decades (1874-1920) he headed the National Department of Statistics in Lviv, and in 1901-1920 was the vice-speaker of the National Department. In 1888 he was appointed Corresponding Member of the Krakow Academy of Sciences. For a long time he was a member of the Council (1874-1902) and vice-president (1894-1902) of the Galician Economic Association, corresponding member of the Central Statistical Commission in Vienna (from 1876), full member of the Scientific Society in Lviv (since 1920).

Tadeusz Pilate was involved in administrative law and statistics . He prepared drafts of administrative reforms, including those relating to the right of belonging to the commune , local government, the fight against usury, the activities of the medical service, the right to vote. Introduced profitable forms of credit for the village. Analyzing the reasons that hamper the development of agricultural production in Galicia, he pointed out the unfavorable conditions on railway transport and high tariffs.

Editor of the magazine “Wiadomości statystyczne o stosunkach krajowych” (1873-1918, 11 volumes), “Podręcznik statystyki Galicji” (1900-1913), since 1892 publisher of the journal “Rolnik”. His publications are still used in studies of the economic development of Galicia (statistical tables of communal relations in Galicia in 1877).

His students were: Mauritsii Yaroshinsky and Stanislav Stazhinsky.
