Awards and criticism
“Gorodok” became the third film of Kumar Shahani, which was awarded the Filmfare Awards in the category “ Best Film According to Critics ” [2] .
"Gorodok" received the characteristic of a slow and melodramatic film, uncharacteristic of the Shahani style. Nevertheless, he received recognition from most critics. The cinema blog Ellipsis gave a positive review of the film, noting that “one of the most impressive aesthetic elements of the film is the positioning of the camera, which moves parallel to the psychological and emotional mood of the characters, and the windows and doorways appear repeatedly during the actions of the characters so that the external landscapes merge together with the interior, creating a feeling of social inertia and even rural decadence. Sometimes, Shahani emphasizes rituals and traditions related to the history of the family, which resembles the philosophical approach characteristic of anthropologists ” [3] .
