Biography
From the Baltic nobles. [1] The son of an outstanding Russian entrepreneur Stanislav Littauer, Vladimir was born in the Urals, where his father was a member of the board of several factories.
He graduated from the Nikolaev Cavalry School in 1913, an officer of the Sumy hussar regiment from August 6, 1913. It was in the regiment - thanks to the help of a well-known athlete and senior cornet Vladimir Sokolov, - he became acquainted with the theory and practice of the Italian cavalry officer Federico Caprilli , who laid the foundations of modern jumping .
Member of the First World War, in which he served in the regiment to the rank of captain .
During the Civil War - in the White movement: first in the Volunteer Army, then in the White Army of the Eastern Front in the Far East. Together with his father and younger sister he emigrated to Canada in the spring of 1920. [2]
Equestrian and Equestrian Theory
In 1921 he moved to the United States, where, until 1927, he worked in various industrial positions and in sales, studying English. In 1927, in New York, Littуэрuer met the former Russian cavalrymen [3] and Kadir Giray, with whom he founded the riding school "Boots and Saddles". At first they taught dressage according to the method, adopted in the Russian cavalry, but very quickly switched to the Caprilli methods. Despite the Great Depression, the school was very popular, and the method was adopted by the American competitors, and is even used in some schools to this day in unchanged form for training people and horses. In 1937, Littower left school, focusing on the individual training of the horse-rider pairs. He was widely known as "Captain Littower", translating into English his rank of captain. [4] For half a century - from 1930 to 1982 - published a dozen and a half works on the theory of horse jumping. Also participated in the creation of several educational films on this topic.
Modern researchers consider the Littauer heritage: an accurate analysis of horse gaits and horse jump mechanics; formulation and solution of the problem of a controlled jump for a competitive saddle; the creation of a three-step method of training a pair of "horseman-horse" controlled jump; introduction and promotion of the method of additional control of the horse's voice; own concept of stabilizing the jump; promotion to the masses of the philosophical concept of unity of the rider and horse.
The American Riding Association encourages the study and practical implementation of the work of Littauer to date.
Personal Life
Vladimir Stanislavovich was married once in his life - from 1935 until his death - to the famous specialist in the field of ancient hippology, (nee Graiver; February 11, 1912 - December 7, 2005), the married couple had an only son Andrew. [5] Littauer himself lived for almost a century, having died on August 31, 1989 in New York State on Long Island.
Works
Littower began writing about hippology under the influence of Kurnakov, and published his first book with him in 1930. Unfortunately, the Russian reader Littower is known almost exclusively as a memoir writer of the White emigration - the author of the book “Russian Hussars. Memoirs of an officer of the imperial cavalry. 1911-1920, which is a valuable source on the history of the Russian cavalry. Littauer's professional works were published in English [6] - and Russian equestrian professionals are practically unknown.
The Littweer Archive is currently in the library of the American National Riding Study Center in Middleburg, Virginia.

Notes
- Мар Markov rightly says that only nobles were taken to the squadron of the Nikolaev cavalry cadet school, and noblemen were noblemen, since by 18 years no one, of course, could get a personal nobility. For the first time, the work on the NSUJ was published in 3 consecutive issues of the journal “Military Story”. Later entered the book "Cadets and Junker".
- Лит Littauer's mother died shortly in 1916.
- ↑ later became famous in the USA as a propagandist of Marxism and a Soviet spy, see the English Wikipedia
