Biography

Father is Bosnian , mother is Slovak . In 1960 , he moved to Paris with his family. In 1965, he met Rene Gosinny and, following his admonition, tried his hand at drawing comics. In the 1970s, he collaborated with Gosinny's Pilot magazine, and since 1975 began working with Pierre Kristen on a series of black tales.

Creativity

His most famous graphic novels are : The Nicopolis Trilogy ( 1980 - 1992 ), The Beast Tetralogy ( 1998 - 2007 ) and the science fiction film Immortals: War of the Worlds ( 2004 ).

As an artist, Bilal worked in the films Alain Renee “ My American Uncle ” ( 1980 ) and “ Life is a Novel ” ( 1983 ), the film “ The Name of the Rose ” by Jean-Jacques Annot ( 1986 ), collaborated with Angelin Preljocage in his work on the ballet “ Romeo and Juliet ”( 1990 , to the music of Prokofiev ), illustrated the books of Jules Verne .

Interesting Facts

In the Enki Bilal comic-book novel “Froid-Équateur”, for the first time, the concept of a new sport was introduced - the checkerboard . The Dutch performance artist Ipe Rubing , inspired by this work, brought the idea to life.
