Town Planning Projects

Ignacy Drexler is considered one of the pioneers of urban planning in Poland. In 1910 he took part in the competition for the plan for the expansion of Krakow through the annexation of suburban settlements. The work was not noted, but acquired by the jury. [8] Later on, he developed the final regulation plan for Krakow. Headed the measurement and regulation division created in 1910 by the construction department of the Lviv magistrate. The Department carried out a number of preparatory works and made an unsuccessful attempt to hold a competition for Lviv regulation projects. At the same time, he published the book “Big Lviv”, whose ideas influenced further work on the regulation of the city. In 1923 he received an order from the magistrate for the manufacture of the draft regulation. A similar order was simultaneously received by Tadeusz Tolvinsky, a professor at the Warsaw University of Technology . Both works with the accompanying material were exhibited in the Town Hall in 1924 and later formed the basis for further development of the magistrate in this direction. Working at the Drexler magistrate, he completed a number of improvement projects for individual streets. In the 1920s, he developed a plan for expanding and improving the planning of the Lychakiv cemetery .

Drexler also took part in the drafting of a law adopted in 1928 that regulated the construction of settlements. He propagandized the ideas of the urban gardens of Ebenezer Howard . Spoke a number of reports and abstracts on this topic. He published in the professional press reports from foreign exhibitions on architecture and urban planning. He studied the history of urban planning. In particular, in 1924 , he executed a copy of the Stanislavov scaled-up plan of the end of the 18th century. (now Ivano-Frankivsk , a copy is kept in the funds of the Ivano-Frankivsk Local History Museum ) [9] . In parallel, he fulfilled the plan of regulation of Stanislavov. [ten]

In 1925 , he received second place in the competition project of the general plan of Lublin . [11] Among the advantages of the Drexler project was a successful solution to the issues of gardening, emphasizing the architectural value of the historic center. These developments were taken into account in further work on the master plan in the Lublin magistrate. The originals of the project have not been preserved, with the exception of a fragment, it represents a detailed layout of the Bow of the Tatars above Bystritsa, as well as a poorly detailed black and white photo of the project. [12]

Art

In addition to town planning, Ignacy Drexler was also known as an art historian. In 1908 , he translated and published the book by Max Klinger Malarstwo i rysunek, which became very popular. The magazine Tygodnik Ilustrowany analyzed the work of the photographer Jan Bulgak [13] . Wrote a preface to the album, issued by Ludvik Velezhinsky Malowidla scienne Jana Henryka Rosena w katedrze ormianskiej we Lwowie (Wall paintings of Jan Henryk Rosen in the Armenian Cathedral in Lviv).
