History
On the development of a new version of the Khazar BRDM-2DI - with enhanced frontal protection (in which it was decided to completely abandon the inspection hatches of the driver and commander) and a new combat module (23 mm cannon and a 7.62 mm machine gun coaxial with it) It became known in December 2016 [5] . Work on the creation of an armored car was commissioned by the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and foreign customers [6] [7] .
The developer of the armored car was the design department of the Nikolaev armored plant [8] .
The creation of the first armored car was supposed to be completed in mid-2017 [5] .
On October 9, 2017, a demonstration model of an armored car was first shown to the public [7] and on October 10, 2017, it was officially presented at the weapons exhibition in Kiev “Zbroya and bezpeka -2017 ” [1] .
At the end of December 2017, the factory tests of the armored vehicle [2] were completed, in 2018 it was included in the list of products of the Ukroboronprom concern [3] and offered for export by the state-owned Spetstekhnoexport [9] .
On September 7, 2018, it was announced that they signed the Promoboronexport memorandum of cooperation with the Polish company WZM on the issue of joint modernization of an armored car (new name for the BRM “Mongoose”) [8] .
Description
During the conversion of the BRDM-2 to the BRDM-NIK, two pairs of pneumatic wheels (designed to overcome trenches and trenches ) and four hydraulic lifts that provide their extension are dismantled, and the power plant is replaced (as with the creation of the BRDM-2DI Khazar , instead of the GAZ-41, a FPT IVECO Tector diesel engine [7] with a pre-heater ) is installed [2] .
Independent torsion bar suspension [4] . The suspension is strengthened and the level of armor protection is increased due to the installation of an outboard booking kit [2] , which is bolted to the outside of the armor housing, while the angle of inclination of the upper frontal armor plate is increased [1] .
On the sides of the vehicle, two additional double-wing hatches for landing were made (in the upper part of which there is a loophole for firing) [1] , a lifting ramp [2] [7] was installed in the rear of the vehicle.
In addition, the BRDM-NIK is equipped with bulletproof tubeless tires of Ukrainian production [2] , car headlights and video cameras [1] .
A new digital radio station [2] [10] was also installed on the BRDM-NIK.
Options and Modifications
- BRDM-NIK - version of 2017, the BRDM-2 tower (one 14.5 mm KPVT machine gun and one 7.62 mm PKT machine gun ) was preserved as armament [1]
- version with reinforced weapons - in place of the BRDM-2 tower, it is planned to install a turret combat module (23-mm automatic gun and coaxial 7.62-mm machine gun) [1] [5]
