R-124 is a Soviet intercom designed to provide internal and circular telephone communications for crew members of combat vehicles and commanders of landing units [1] [2] . According to the data for 2004, it was considered obsolete, although widely used in the ground forces of the Russian Federation, as a means of communication [3] instead of which R-174 equipment began to be used [2] .
Composition and purpose
Tank intercom R-124 provides [1] [2] :
- telephone communication between five subscribers with listening to their own speech,
- the ability to connect the commander of the machine and the gunner to the on-board radio station ( P-123 or P-112 ) to go on the air,
- listening by crew members of signals from radiation and chemical reconnaissance equipment.
At the same time, the coefficient of verbal speech intelligibility in conditions of acoustic noise with an intensity of 120 dB at vibration-shock loads typical for operating conditions of armored vehicles is at least 90% [2] .
R-124 consists of five subscriber communication devices (A-1, A-2, A-3, A-4, A-5), five headsets with a laryngotelephone headset, and five telephone cables with chest switches [1] . The A-1 device is intended for internal communication of the commander of a combat vehicle with all crew members, with the landing party and for the commander to enter the external radio network through the on-board radio station, the A-2 device with the ability to connect to one of the radio stations is intended for the gunner, the A-3 device with output only for internal communication - for the loader, A-4 - for the driver, A-5 - for the landing commander [1] .
The electric circuit is an amplification-switching system that combines laryngophone amplifiers and one terminal amplifier into a single amplifier path [1] . Power is supplied from an onboard power supply voltage of 27 volts with a current consumption of 0.45 amperes [2] .
