Biography
Rosimar Palyaris was born on February 20, 1980 in the municipality of Doris do Indaya , Minas Gerais . He grew up in a poor peasant family, from the age of seven he was forced to work in the fields for food. As a teenager, he left home for the city, where at first he lived in a tent under a bridge. At the age of fifteen, he began to seriously engage in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu , ultimately he was awarded the black belt in this discipline, having received it from the hands of Murilo Bustamante . Martial arts experts named Palyaris among the most gifted grapplers of our time [1] [2] [3] .
Beginning of a professional career
He made his debut in mixed martial arts on a professional level in May 2004, but lost his first fight on points by decision of the judges. He fought with varying success in various small promotions in Brazil, in particular in 2007 he won the Fury FC Grand Prix in the middle weight category.
Ultimate Fighting Championship
With seven victories and only two defeats on the track record, Palyaris attracted the attention of the world's largest fighting organization Ultimate Fighting Championship and in May 2008 won the first victory in the octagon, while receiving a bonus for the best reception of the evening. In the next match, however, he met with former Pride champion Dan Henderson and lost to him by unanimous decision in three rounds.
In 2009, he won two victories in the UFC, 2010 also began with a victory, but then lost by technical knockout to Nate Marquardt . Later he added to the track record of victory over such fighters as David Branch , Dan Miller , Mike Massencio , and in addition , in 2012 lost to Alan Belcher and Hector Lombard . In a duel with Pole Tomas Drval, Paljaris was blamed for not wanting to let an obviously surrender opponent out of pain - for this he was punished with 90-day suspension from participation in competitions [4] . Another scandal with his participation occurred after the fight with Lombard, when as a result of the doping test he was found to have significantly exceeded testosterone levels - disqualification for a period of 9 months followed [5] .
The last time he fought in the UFC cage in October 2013, he won the welterweight by twisting his heel against Mike Pearce - while the Brazilian continued to hold a painful reception even after the opponent surrendered (signaling the surrender, Pierce knocked eight times) and the referee intervened. Soon in connection with the incident, the organization’s president, Dana White, announced the dismissal of Rosimar Pillaris, recalling the previous scandals of 2010 and 2012 [6] .
World Series of Fighting
Leaving the UFC, Palyaris joined another major American organization, the World Series of Fighting , while promotion president Ray Sefo immediately warned him about the inadmissibility of breaking the rules [7] . In the very first fight in March 2014, the Brazilian won the right to challenge the champion welterweight title and forced the current champion Steve Carl to surrender in the first round with his crown twist [8] . In December, he successfully defended his title against John Fitch , putting him on the knee (again, raising questions over the length of the reception) [9] .
In August 2015, in Las Vegas, Palyaris spent the second defense of his title, going into a cage against Jake Shields . In the first half of the match, Shields looked preferable, but in the second round, after a missed takedown and damage received in the stalls, he began to noticeably sag. In the third round, Palyaris caught him in a “kimura” - once again he continued to take the reception longer than prescribed, despite the signals of the delivery and the intervention of the referee. The next day, while talking to the press, the Brazilian insisted on his innocence, however, the Nevada Athletic Commission decided to punish him with suspension from the competition for a period of two years [10] . WSOF Vice President Ali-Abdel Aziz said in an interview that “Palyaris has problems with his head, and he should not be allowed to fight until he deals with them” [11] .
Other organizations
Unable to speak in the United States, Rosimar Palyaris began to cooperate with European organizations, in particular, fought in Italy and Poland. In 2017, he signed a contract with the major Russian promotion Fight Nights and made his debut here with a victory over the titled Russian sambist Alexei Ivanov . He fought in Dagestan with a local fighter Shamil Amirov, their confrontation ended in a controversial split decision, as a result of which Amirov was named the winner. Later, the MMA Union of Russia revised the result of this match, changing it to a draw [12] .
