Biography
Sililo Figota was born on December 5, 1965 in the village of Faleapuna in the administrative district of Vaa o Fonoti in Samoa .
The first serious success at the adult international level was achieved in the 1990 season, when he joined the main squad of the Samoan national team and attended the Commonwealth Games in New Zealand Auckland, where he won the bronze dignity award.
After these games, Figota remained in New Zealand, joined the New Zealand national team and began to represent this country in international competitions. So, in 1991, under the New Zealand flag, he entered the ring of the World Championship in Sydney - reached the 1/8 final stage here, losing to the titled Cuban Juan Carlos Lemus , who eventually became the new world champion.
Thanks to a series of successful performances in 1992, Sililo Figota was awarded the right to defend the country's honor at the Summer Olympic Games in Barcelona . Nevertheless, he spent only one match at the Olympics, in the first middleweight fight with a crushing score of 2:16 he was defeated by the German Marcus Bayer . Soon after the end of these competitions, he decided to end his career in amateur Olympic boxing, giving way to young New Zealand boxers in the national team [1] .
After leaving the New Zealand national team, Figota decided to try himself among the professionals and over the next four years held several professional fights, of which five won and four lost. Twice claimed the title of champion of New Zealand, but in both title fights he was a loser.
