Eagle owl [1] Acragantes [2] ( dr. Greek Φιλῖνος ) - an ancient Greek historian of the III century BC. e. from Akragant ( Sicily ). The works are not preserved and are known only from the retelling of their fragments by Polybius and Diodorus of Sicily . He recounted the history of the First Punic War from pro-Carthaginian positions. Perhaps he fought on the side of the Carthaginians [3] or accompanied their army [4] . It has been suggested that Filin's anti-Roman sentiments are related to the cruel treatment of the Romans with Akragant, which they captured in 261 BC. e. [four]

Polybius, in describing the events of the First Punic War, used the writings of Filin and Quintus Fabius Pictor , but more so Fabius, eliminating the "extremes" of Roman patriotism [3] . Perhaps Polybius's description of the siege of Lilibey is based on the testimony of Filin as an eyewitness to these events [5] . Nevertheless, Polybius sharply criticizes Filin for bias, and also calls his testimony of the existence of the Roman-Carthaginian treaty of 306 BC a fiction. e., according to which Sicily was attributed to the sphere of influence of Carthage, and the Apennine Peninsula - Rome . Diodorus of Sicily, however, relied primarily on the Owl [3] , which, in turn, used the Carthaginian sources.
