Biography
Born in 1813 in the Austrian city of Gersten. In 1836 he graduated from the University of Vienna , and in 1838 received a doctorate in law. In 1840, the scientist taught criminal law at the University of Vienna, where in 1842 he was appointed professor. However, in the same year he was transferred to the post of head of the Department of Canonical and Roman Law of the Faculty of Law of the University of Lviv . He held this position until 1857, when he was transferred to the University of Pest . In 1863, he again returned to teaching at the University of Lviv and taught until 1874.
The academic senate of the University of Lviv twice chose Franz Cotter as the rector of the university (1850-1851 and 1871-1872).
