Biography

Born on December 19 ^[1] 1927 in the village of Shubinka in the Ordynsky district of the Novosibirsk Region in the family of Alexander Evfimovich and Pelageya Maximovna Bayborodin. On December 25 of the same year, he was baptized in the St. Sergius Church of his native village. With his parents moving to the Primorsky Territory, he studied at a secondary school in the city of Sovetskaya Gavan , but managed to finish only 9 classes.

During the Second World War , in October 1944, he was mobilized into the ranks of the Red Army and served in the aeronautical units: first, in the aviation radio engineering school of the city of Frunze , then transferred to the city of Riga (Latvia), served in military units No. 49722 ( Kaliningrad ) and No. 53972 ( Šiauliai ), providing maintenance for airfields. In November 1952 he was demobilized with the rank of senior sergeant , receiving encouragement - a commemorative photograph near the unit’s banner.

From 1952 to 1953 he completed interrupted education in evening secondary school No. 26 at the station Pishpek (Frunze) of the Turkestan-Siberian Railway ^[5] .

In 1953 he entered the Physics and Mathematics Department of the Polytechnic Institute in the city of Frunze .

In 1957 he arrived in the city of Zagorsk , where he entered the Moscow Theological Seminary , and on October 14 of the same year he was enrolled in the brotherhood of the Trinity-Sergius Lavra ^[6] .

On August 14, 1958, the governor of the monastery, Archimandrite Pimen (Khmelevsky), was tonsured a monk with the name Naum (in honor of the Monk Naum of Radonezh) ^[7] . October 8 of the same year, on the feast of St. Sergius of Radonezh, in the Sergius Church of the Trinity-Sergius Lavra (Refectory Church), Metropolitan Nestor of Novosibirsk and Barnaul (Anisimov) was ordained hierodeacon , and on October 8, 1959, in the Assumption Cathedral of the Lavra, Metropolitan of Odessa Kherson Boris (Vic) ordained him to the rank of hieromonk ^[1] .

After graduating from the first category of theological seminary in 1960, he entered the Moscow Theological Academy , where he graduated with a candidate of theology degree.

On April 25, 1970, the rector of the Moscow Theological Academy and Seminary, Archbishop Filaret Hieromonk Naum, was elevated to the rank of hegumen , and in 1979, to Holy Easter, to the rank of archimandrite .

In 1996, he actively contributed to the construction of the Mikhailo-Arkhangelsk nunnery in the native village of Maloirmenka , based on the site of the destroyed rural temple ^[8] .

Since 2000, he joined the Spiritual Council of the Trinity-Sergius Lavra, and in 2001 he was appointed trustee of the Lavra Orphanage in the town of Toporkovo, Moscow Region.

Since 2016, he was in a coma due to cerebral edema . He died in a hospital on the morning of October 13, 2017 ^[9] . The funeral service was performed at 7:30 a.m. on October 15 in the Assumption Cathedral of the Trinity-Sergius Lavra ^[10] .

Seven children were born in the family (Mikhail, Dimitri, Maria, Elizabeth, Elizabeth (second), Zinaida), but all his brothers and sisters died in infancy.
