Mavka: Forest song

Limitless Ukrainian forests have long hidden many secrets and mysteries. Here, among the age-old trees, live unusual mythical creatures that protect their invisible world to the human eye.

Mavka is a charming forest nymph. Her main vocation is to protect the Forest and its Heart - the sources of life itself - from any encroachment, including people.

Lukash is an ordinary country boy who is fond of music and puts all his talent into the flute game. It is thanks to the guy's music that a miracle happens: Mavka and Lukash meet and fall in love with each other.

Their union is almost impossible anyway, however, the obstacles become even greater when a self-serving and powerful Kalina appears in the village. Not far from the Forest, she builds a sawmill, which is only a cover for her true goal - to reach the Heart of the Forest. Kalina knows that the key to him is Mavka, in whose heart love has already settled and made her vulnerable. In order to use Mavka, Kalina chooses Lukash and peasants in love with her weapon, who fill their souls with malice and fear.

Will Mavka and Lukash protect their feelings? Is Mavka able to save the Forest and her love? Will each of the two lovers make the right choice? ^[3]

In September 2015, the press service of the company Film.UA Group announced the start of production of a full-length cartoon based on the classic work “ Forest Song ” ^[4] . Initially it was assumed that the script for the tape would be written by the famous Russian script group "Sugar" ^[5] . However, the final choice still fell on Yaroslav Voitsek. In December 2016, the cartoon "Mavka. Forest Song "became the winner of the 9th competitive selection of Goskino . The project was noted with one of the highest points (41.67) among 88 finalist projects. An agreement was concluded with the Studio Animagrad ^[6] on the provision of partial state funding in the amount of 24.5 million hryvnia , which represents about 30% of the total cartoon budget ^[7] . In March 2017, the producers of FILM.UA Group and Animagrad successfully conducted the first international pitching of the project “Mavka: Forest Song” at the Cartoon Movie ^[8] , the most animated forum in Europe, where Ukraine was presented for the first time. In the traditional forum survey, many of the participants called the pitch “Nymphs” the best of 50 projects. Producers received feedback from major players in the animation market, including The Walt Disney Company (Germany, Switzerland & Austria), Annecy International Animated Film Festival, CANAL +, TF1 International, Super RTL and many other companies.
