Biography

The exact date of birth, origin and circumstances of the composer's life are unknown. Different years between 1630 and 1640 are cited as the estimated date of birth. Istanbul is considered the common birthplace. It is also known that he wore the title of Mawlawi [2] .

He held the post of musician at the court of the Sultan. Ytri not only wrote music, he wrote a number of poems and sofas , but the latter have not been preserved [2] .

The exact date of Ytri’s death has not been established, presumably it happened in 1711 or 1712, although there is a hypothesis about a later death, in 1730 or 1731 [2] .

There is a hypothesis that Ytri was a follower of the religious order of Mevlevi [3] .

In total, Ytri wrote over a thousand and a thousand songs and instrumental compositions, but only about 40 remained [4] [5] .

Ytri is depicted on a 100 lire Turkish banknote issued in 2009 [3] .

In honor of the 300th anniversary of the alleged death of Ytri Unesco, 2012 declared the year “international Ytri year” [6] [3] .

In April 2016, the head of the Department of Religious Affairs of Turkey, Mehmet Görmez, announced that he would consider a proposal to replace Chopin’s funeral march, performed at the funeral, with Ytri Takbir (prayer for the dead) [4] [5] .
