1999 Junior Curling World Championship

The 1999 Junior World Curling Championships ( Eng. 1999 World Junior Curling Championships ) were held from March 20 to 28 in Ostersund ( Sweden ) at the Z-Hallen arena for both male and female teams.

The championship was attended by 10 male and 10 female teams.

In the men's tournament, the Canadian team became the champions (9th time in their history and the 2nd consecutive time), who won the Swiss national team in the final. The US team won bronze medals, winning the Sweden national team in the 3rd place match.

In the women's tournament, the Swiss national team became the champion (for the first time in its history), having won the Japanese national team in the final. The bronze medal was won by the national team of Canada, who won the match for the 3rd place in the national team of Sweden.

For the first time, the Russian women's team participated in the championship.

Content

Competition Format

At the first, group stage, 10 teams play among themselves in a circular system in one circle. The team that took the last place is sent to the pre-qualification tournament next year. The four best teams in the group stage go to the second stage, playoffs , where they play according to the Olympic system : semi-finals, final and match for 3rd place.
