Biography

Eric Verdonck was born in Taihap, New Zealand, into a family of Dutch migrants who in the 1950s were the first foreigners to meet Kiwi [1] . The first tournament where he won his first cup was the Maadi Cup in Westlake 1976. Took part in the national championship of New Zealand, where he became a champion every time from 1987 to 1993. After completing his professional career, he became a member of the New Zealand Trainers Association. He has a lot of master classes for rowers, as well as coordination and training of rowing coaches [2] .

Olympic appearances

Taking into account significant successes in rowing, the Olympic Committee of New Zealand decided to include Eric Verdon in the national team. The first and most successful Olympic competitions in his career were the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul. In the heat of singles with the result of 06: 58.660, he won a bronze medal, giving up the championship to rivals from Germany (Peter-Michael Kolbe - 2nd place, 06: 54.770) and GDR ( Lange Thomas - 1st place, 06: 49.860) [3 ] [4] [5] .
