Biography

Born in the territory of modern Belarus.

He entered the Jesuit Order on January 20, 1805 in the city of Dinaburg (now Daugavpils ); He stayed in novitiate until 1807, the consecration for the priesthood took place in Polotsk in 1814.

In 1805-1807 he studied philosophy at the Polotsk Jesuit College , theology - in 1815-1818, where he received a master 's degree in philosophy and a doctor of theology . He was in the same institution a professor of poetry in the years 1810-1814, rhetoric - in 1812-1814.

In Polotsk, he created the first in the territory of Belarus literary and scientific journal Polotsk Monthly ( Polish. Miesięcznik Połocki ) [3] . He was its editor in the years 1818-1820 [3] .

Since 1819 he taught at the Polotsk Academy law, economics, political history and statistics. He taught at the Jesuit institutions of Mstislavl , Vitebsk [3] , Polotsk ; in 1821-1834 - at the Ternopil gymnasium of the Jesuit Order as a professor of philosophy (after the expulsion of the Jesuits from the Russian Empire in 1820) [4] , moral and pastoral theology in the city of Novy Sacz (1834-1835); in Graz (1835–1837), Linz (1837–1848), taught for 8 years in Innsbruck ( Austrian Empire ) [3] . After the dissolution of the Jesuit Order in the Austrian monarchy, he was the inspector of the school (in 1843) in Lesser Poland . In 1848, he went to Belgium and taught philosophy in Namur .

Since 1848 he taught at the University of Leuven ( Leuven , Belgium ).

Died in Leuven [5] .

Works

He left many manuscripts of philosophical and theological content, which are almost unexplored [3] . The author of books on philosophy in Polish and Latin .

In 1842-1844, his 3-volume work “Philosophical Reflections ...” in Latin was published in Vienna : the first volume included logic , the second - metaphysics , the third - ethics [5] . As illustrative material I used examples from the history of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and Poland .
