Battleship "New Jersey" (BB-62) ( eng. USS New Jersey (BB-62) , "Big Jay" ( eng. Big J ) or "Black Dragon" ( eng. Black Dragon )) - American battleship type " Iowa . Service History
During the Second World War he participated in operations off the islands of Guam and Okinawa , covered aircraft carriers during a raid on the Marshall Islands. During the Korean War, it was used in operations near the North Korean coast. In the mid-fifties he was withdrawn to the reserve, nicknamed by the American sailors the "mothballs fleet." In 1968, it was re-opened and sent to Vietnam to support American troops. Re-preservation took place in 1969. It was modernized and reintroduced into the fleet in the early 80s according to the so-called “ 600 ships program ”. He took part in the civil war in Lebanon in 1983. Finally withdrawn from the fleet in 1991 after a total of 21 years of active service. He has 19 awards for participating in operations during World War II , the war in Korea , the war in Vietnam , the civil war in Lebanon , and the war in the Gulf . The status of the museum acquired October 15, 2001.
