Biography

In 1953 he graduated from the Kiev Medical Institute , entered the residency at the Department of Hospital Therapy of a Cardiologist A. L. Myasnikov at the 1st Medical Institute in Moscow, defended his dissertation of the candidate of medical sciences. He worked at the Institute of Therapy of the Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR as a junior, then as a senior researcher, and later as deputy director for research. The scientific interests of E. I. Chazov were formed under the influence of the director of the Institute of Therapy of the Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR , the winner of the international award “ Golden Stethoscope ” by Academician of the Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR A. L. Myasnikov. In 1963, EI Chazov defended his doctoral thesis [3] . Professor (1965). [4] From 1965 to 1967, EI Chazov was the director of the Institute of Therapy of the Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR, transformed in 1967 into the Institute of Cardiology (since 1976 - the A. L. Myasnikov Institute of Clinical Cardiology ) of the Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR. Since 1968 - Deputy Minister of Health of the USSR and at the same time Head of the Emergency Cardiology Department of the Institute of Cardiology. A. L. Myasnikova. In 1967-1986, Chazov was the head of the IV Main Directorate under the USSR Ministry of Health. In 1976, Chazov became the director of the new All-Union Cardiological Scientific Center of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences (in 1991-1997, the Cardiological Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences). In 1997, the Cardiological Center was transformed into the Russian Cardiological Research and Production Complex of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, headed by General Director E. I. Chazov. In 1968–1986, EI Chazov was the Deputy Minister, and in 1987–1990, the Minister of Health of the USSR Since 1990 - again the director of the All-Union Cardiological Scientific Center of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences. EI Chazov has become a recognized authority uniting the activities of Russian and American cardiologists. In the 1970s-1980s, EI Chazov, together with B. Laun (USA), initiated the creation and co-chair of the international movement Doctors of the World for the Prevention of Nuclear War , which was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1985 .

In 1976, with the direct participation of E. I. Chazov, the sanatorium Volzhsky Utyos was created and opened, currently part of the Medical Center of the Office of the President of the Russian Federation . He is the general director of the Russian Cardiological Research and Production Complex .

Health Status

In February 2016, EI Chazov was hospitalized with a fracture of the femoral neck. Successfully operated on in the CDB , but the injury was accompanied by complications [5] .

In April 2016, he was transferred to the psychiatric department of “one of the best Moscow hospitals”. After the examination, Chazov was diagnosed with dyscirculatory encephalopathy [6] . It is characterized by the development of speech and thinking disorders.

Family

He was married to the intensive care specialist Renate Nikolaevna Lebedeva (1928-1999). After the divorce, he married Lydia Viktorovna Germanova , the founder of preventive medicine in the USSR, a professor and a doctor of medical sciences. The last wife was secretary Lidia Zhukova. From the first marriage has a daughter Tatiana. From the second marriage - daughter Irina (born 1961), academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, currently director of the Institute of Clinical Cardiology. A. L. Myasnikova.

Scientific Activities

Major works on problems of thrombosis and myocardial infarction , myocardial metabolism and circulatory failure. Editor of Therapeutic Archives (since 1973). Chairman of the All-Union Cardiological Society (since 1975). In 1967, E.I. Chazov was elected a corresponding member of the Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR , in 1971 - Academician of the Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR, and in 1979 - Academician of the USSR Academy of Sciences .

Under his leadership, defended more than 30 doctoral and 50 master's theses. Author of over 450 scientific papers, including 15 monographs. Under the leadership of E. I. Chazov, a scientific discovery was made “The phenomenon of the regulation of the force of contraction of the heart muscle by creatine ”, which is listed in the State Register of Discoveries of the USSR under No. 187 with priority of November 6, 1973 [7]

Honored Scientist of the RSFSR , Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan . Member of the advisory council of the World Health Organization .

EI Chazov is one of the founders of the Faculty of Fundamental Medicine of Moscow State University. M. V. Lomonosov [8] .
