Biography
Born in the Bessarabian town of Orhei in 1924 in the family of the painter Mendel Mendel (Mendl) Ikhilyevich Mashkautsan (1898-1964) and Rachel (Rosa) Sanevna Mashkautsan (1899-1982) [1] .
Studied in a header .
He was drafted into the Red Army in August 1942 from Essentuki , where he worked as a line officer in the communications section of the labor battalion .
He served as a gunner in the 530th separate anti-tank artillery regiment of the 28th Army of the First Ukrainian Front .
After the war, he was demobilized, graduated from a technical school in Soroca , worked as a senior foreman at the Chisinau Tractor Plant, was the director of a factory technical school [2] . In June 1989, he was deprived of Soviet citizenship and moved to New Jersey , then to New Haven ( Connecticut , USA ) [3] .
Rewards
- He was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union by a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Council of the USSR of June 27, 1945 (with the awarding of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal No. 4567) for the heroism and courage shown in the battle during the capture of Berlin in the area of the settlement of Kummersdorf 25 kilometers south of Berlin April 29, 1945 [4] .
- He was also awarded the Order of the Patriotic War of 1 degree and many medals.
