Antonevich-Jan Boloz ( Polish: Jan Antoniewicz-Bołoz , May 3, 1858 , p. Biography

Born May 3, 1858 in the village. Buffoons ( Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria , Austrian Empire ).

He studied at the University of Krakow ( 1876 - 1880 , at first the legal sciences, which soon left them to benefit from the study of philology, mainly German studies and novel studies). For further studies, he went to the University of Wroclaw (1880-1882), and then to the University of Munich (1884-1986), where he worked under the leadership of Karl Weinhold, Konrad Hoffmann and Michael Bernays. For the doctoral dissertation, the research topic was proposed: "" Die Entstehung des Schillerschen Demetrius "".

Vulnerable to the beauty of art, he met abroad with his artistic monuments and studied Wagner's music, but mainly his theory of musical drama. He deepened his acquaintance with literature and poetry with the philosophy and aesthetics of poetry, after which he spread to the field of art studies. It was this learning path and the variety of hobbies that created for him a broad base for the artistic court in assessing the phenomena of art.

In 1885, he published a study in Pamiętniku Akademji Umiejętności: “On medieval sources for carvings found on the ivory casket in the treasury of the Wawel cathedral”. In 1885 he became a member of the Commission of the History of Art of the Academy of Knowledge .

When the Department of the History of Art was formed at Lviv University in 1892, he headed it in 1893 as a freelance professor.

At the same time, he became a restorer of monuments of medieval and modern art, in 1897 he was a corresponding member of the Academy of Knowledge, in 1898 an ordinary professor. He organized the Institute of the History of Art at his department, which for many years provided a rich scientific apparatus, a professional library, reproductions, photographs and transparencies.

He worked as the head of the Department of the History of Contemporary Art at Lviv University ( 1893 - 1922 ) and the director of the Institute of the History of Art ( 1894 - 1922 ).

Co-founder of the scientific community in Lviv ( 1920 ), founded the art history section in it (1922). [1] Studied the theory of art, as well as the history of Polish literature and art, in particular the Renaissance and modernism. He was a member of the jury of competitions for the design of the Church of St. Elizabeth in Lviv ( 1903 ) [2] , for the design of the monument to Andrzej Potocki in Lviv ( 1910 ) [3] , the new building of Lviv University ( 1913 ). He was especially interested in the architecture of Western Ukrainian Armenians, in particular, in Stanislav , Snyatin , Tysmenitsa , Kuta ( Ivano-Frankivsk region ).

He suggested that Stanislav Stroinsky could be the author of the murals of the Dominican church in the city of Golden Stream . [five]
