"Ariel" ( Finnish. Ariel ) - drama of the Finnish film director and screenwriter Aki Kaurismäki . The main character of the film is the unemployed miner Taisto Kasurinen, whose father has just committed suicide, is charged with a crime that he did not commit. The picture is the second part of the “proletarian trilogy” of Kaurismäki, begun by the film “Shadows in Paradise” and completed by “A Girl from a Match Factory” . FIPRESCI Prize and Best Actor Award ( Turo Payal ) at the 1989 Moscow Film Festival .

Story
Miner Taisto Kasurinen is left without work when the northern mine, where he worked with his father, is closed. The father gives his son the keys to his white Cadillac, after which he fires a bullet in his forehead. In the inherited car, Taisto goes to the south of the country, during one of the stops he is robbed, depriving him of all the money. Taisto is forced to interrupt casual earnings. Once, leaving his car in the wrong place, he meets a parking inspector Irmeli, who invites him to his home. She is divorced and lives with her son Riku. Irmeli quits work, so in order to get at least some money, Taisto sells his father's Cadillac. On the same day, he encounters one of the robbers and, having entered into a fight with him, finds himself in prison. In conclusion, Taisto makes friends with his cellmate Mikkonen. Irmeli helps them escape from prison. Finding himself at large, Taisto first marries her. To buy a fake passport, Taisto and Mikkonen participate in a bank robbery, the latter dies at the hands of one of the accomplices when sharing money. After burying a friend, Taisto, along with Irmeli and Riku, board the Ariel cargo ship bound for Mexico.
