Juan Afara ( Spanish Juan Afara ) - Paraguayan statesman and politician. From August 15, 2013 to April 11, 2018 he served as vice president of the country.

Biography
Born August 19, 1960 in the Paraguayan city of Santa Rosa , Department of Misiones . He graduated from the University of Technology in Encarnacion , specializing in a diploma in ecology. In 1985, he was appointed to the post of public service in the district of Thomas Romero Pereira . He worked in this district until 2001, and in 2002 he put forward his candidacy for the post of governor of Itapua from the Party of Colorado [1] .
From August 15, 2008 to October 19, 2012, he served as governor of Itapua, and then ran as a candidate for the post of vice president of the country. On August 15, 2013 he became vice president of Paraguay, and his colleague in the party of Colorado, Horacio Cartes, was elected president of the state [2] [3] .
Juan Afara is married with four children. In 2015, he was awarded the Order of the Diamond Star by President of the Republic of China Ma Ying-jeou for diplomatic work to develop relations between the two countries [4] .
