Biography

Christiane Riedl studied mathematics at the University of Vienna , where in 1966 she received the title of Doctor of Science. From 1966 to 1968 she worked as a system programmer with the ALGOL 60 compiler at Siemens in Munich . In 1968-1973 she worked as a researcher and lecturer in the computer sciences at Stanford University in the United States [2] .

In 1973, she began working for the Softlab software company in Munich, where she was a senior consultant and was involved in the development and demonstration of Maestro I [3] , the first software integrated into the development environment [2] .

In 1978, Floyd became a full professor of programming at the Berlin Technical University [4] , the first woman professor in computer science in Germany [1] . Since 1991, she led the programming group at the University of Hamburg [2] . Floyd and her group took one of the first conceptual steps in collaborative design methods with the STEPS (Software Technology for Evolutionary Participatory Systems development) process model [5] . Floyd completed work at the university in 2008, remaining an Emeritus professor in Hamburg. After that, she took part in a project of the Vienna Technical University called WIT (“Wissenschaftlerinnenkolleg Internettechnologien”; College of Internet Technology for Postgraduate Women), which offers a specialized doctoral program for women in computer science. On January 26, 2012, Christiane Floyd became an honorary professor at the Technical University of Vienna [6] .

She was married to Robert Floyd and Peter Naur , both computer scientists [4] .
