Travel
Kerguelen
Ober de la Rue first went to Kerguelen as authorized by the Bosier brothers, who had a concession in the archipelago since July 31, 1893 [7] , to search for mineral deposits. Together with his wife, he landed at the port of Couvre in November 1928 . They conducted the first comprehensive study of the island's geology.
- November 12, 1928 - February 25, 1929
The second time they were delivered to Kerguelen by the ship “Saint-Paul Island”, which brought in a batch of workers for the canning factory in Saint-Paul . The ships “l'Austral” and “l'Antarès” were already in the local bay. Spouses must conduct research. [8] In March, an epidemic caused by vitamin deficiency began among plant workers. The work in the region was prematurely curtailed and “l'Austral”, taking all those who were on Kerguelen, went to the rescue. At Saint-Paul, the on - board doctor provided the victims with the necessary assistance and decided to close the plant.
Travels were also made in the following periods:
- January 25 - March 27, 1931
The scientist made two more trips two decades later:
- December 11, 1949 - January 16, 1950
- December 12, 1951 - January 6, 1953
