The midbrain lid is the part of the midbrain that extends from the black matter to the brain's water supply on a horizontal section of the midbrain. The midbrain lid forms the lower, basal, or “plantar” part of the midbrain, surrounding the brain from below and partly from the sides of the brain. Structures attributed to the midbrain lining include the black substance , the reticular formation of the midbrain, the red core , the ventral region of the tire , the dorsal region of the tire , and the near-conductive gray matter . The midbrain lid contains thousands of neurons responsible for many different functions of the body, in particular, for controlling movements and for regulating the activity of sensory systems [1] .
