Appearance and structure
The total length of representatives of this genus reaches 1 m. They have a head very widened at the base with large eyes. Their hallmark is the vertical pupil. The color is not bright - gray and brown colors, with a pattern of dark spots.
Lifestyle
They love forests, they are often found near human settlements. Although Madagascar snakes are usually found on the ground, they climb trees well. Active at dusk and at night. They feed on frogs, which they swallow alive, as well as small rodents and lizards, primarily chameleons, which snakes strangle with rings of their bodies.
These are ovipositing snakes. Females lay up to 10 eggs. Young snakes appear after 83 days.
