FIDE master

FIDE Master - Chess Title - Intermediate between the titles of the national master and the international master of FIDE ; FIDE is awarded for successful performances in international competitions (see FIDE qualification system). Established by FIDE Congress (1978) on the proposal of the FIDE Qualification Commission. The first master of FIDE was Yoon Arnason . The title of master of FIDE was awarded to 1480 chess players (1987): 1283 men and 197 women. Among Soviet chess players the titles were awarded to: V. Salov (1980); E. Stupina (1981); E. Bareev , 3. Lelchuk , I. Ostry (1982); A. Dreev (1984); V. Akopyan (1986); A. Gallyamova (1987).
