History
At the beginning of the 19th century, the Department of Anejos completely surrounded the provincial capital. In 1858, the governor of the province of Cordoba, allocated the capital to a separate department , and divided the remaining part along the Rio-Primero into departments of Anejos-Norte (“northern Anejos”) and Anejos-Sur (“southern Anejos”). In 1892, when the 400th anniversary of the discovery of America by Columbus was celebrated, Governor renamed the Department of Anejos-Norte in honor of Columbus (which in Spanish reads “Colon”), and the department of Anejos Sur in honor of him the ship "Santa Maria".
