History
The development of mineral resources in these places caused population growth, and in 1850 a separate Minas department was separated from the Pocho department. The proximity to the province of La Rioja made its territory one of the main arenas of war between unitarists and federalists , however, mineral wealth attracted people here anyway, and in the second half of the 19th century it was the most populated department of the province of Cordoba. Depletion of deposits and a change in the country's economic policy led to the fact that people began to switch to other activities and leave, and now this department has become the other way around - the least populated department of the province.
