Youth
Sullivan began his film career at the age of 24. He did not follow in the footsteps of father-lawyer Glen A. Sullivan and uncle Senator Joseph A. Sullivan. The first film released by Sullivan was a short film based on the Christmas tale of Hans Christian Andersen 's The Christmas Tree (1979), where he also played a small role [1] . Then Sullivan wrote the script, produced and directed the documentary drama Kreighoff (1979) about the life of the outstanding German artist and illustrator of the 19th century in Quebec.
In 1979, Sullivan graduated from the University of Toronto with a bachelor's degree in biology. In the same year, he founded with his wife Trudy Grant the production film company Sullivan Entertainment [2] , which has been successfully operating for more than 30 years [3] .
Career
After the success of his first feature film “ Wild Pony ” (1982), in 1984 he acquired the rights to the adaptation of the famous Canadian novel “ Anne from the Green Roofs ” . The film with Megan Fallows , Jonathan Crombie, Richard Farnsworth , starring Colleen Dewhurst became the highest rated in the history of Canadian television. In Japan, the film did not go off the screens of cinemas for five years in a row, and in the US film schools it was studied as a model of television drama for a wide range of viewers. The success of “ Anne from the Green Roofs ” is due to beautiful scenes, painstakingly recreated details of everyday life and costumes. Performance in this genre has become a hallmark of Sullivan's films.
In 2008, Sullivan released the film " Anne from the Green Roofs: A New Beginning " with another actress in the title role and his novel of the same name. Also popular were his animated series " Journey to the Green Mezzanines " and " The Road to Avonly . "
Filmed in the 1990s on Prince Edward Island, The Road to Avonley turned out to be the most popular and profitable in the history of Canadian television. Fans all over the world held a convention ( Avcon ) in Toronto to chat, meet the stars of the show, and visit the filming locations.
Then came the 67-series film “ Wind in the Back ” about the era of the Great Depression, for which Sullivan rebuilt an entire city of the 1930s. Over the years, Sullivan's company has collected thousands of recreated historical costumes, sets and props of the 1860s and 1960s.
Inspired by the baroque architecture of Mozart’s hometown - Salzburg , in 2006 Sullivan decided to create the full-length feature film “ The Magic Flute Diaries ” [4] based on the classical opera of the composer “The Magic Flute ” [4] , which was shot in green-screen studios and natural palaces , monasteries and gardens of Austria and Germany. Sullivan simultaneously produced a documentary about Mozart's genius, his connections with the Masons, and his historical view of the composer [5] .
