Biography
Born in St. Petersburg in the family of the caretaker of the Italian house Matthew Rodionov, he studied after the death of his father from the goldsmiths of master Ilya Ivanov from 1740 [1] .
Twice (in childhood and in the 1740s) he suffered a “fever”, during which he “fell into a frenzy”, raved. The transferred serious illness became one of the reasons for his departure from the world at a young age. However, his illness subsequently passed without a trace [1] .
In March 1743 he entered the Moscow Zlatoust Monastery [1] , where he became a monk. For a long time he was a treasurer in the Moscow Zlatoust monastery. In 1747, he was ordained a hierodeacon [2] .
On November 22, 1754, the interim manager of the Catherine desert in the Prominent Hieromonk Pitirim filed a petition for the appointment of hierodeacon Philip from the Zlatoust Monastery with the construction of the desert as a hieromonk. He was well-behaved, he served conscientiously. But the Metropolitan of Moscow did not give a blessing on his appointment as rector of the Catherine desert, as it turned out that Philip had previously suffered from fever and raved [1] .
In 1757 he was ordained to the rank of hieromonk [2] .
In 1768 he compiled an inventory of the patriarchal sacristy and, as skilled in iconography, performed restoration of icons in the Assumption and Arkhangelsk Kremlin cathedrals [2] .
September 2, 1771 he was entrusted with the management of the Zlatoust monastery [2] .
On December 23 of the same year he was appointed and on January 6, 1772 he was ordained abbot of the Moscow Holy Cross Exaltation Monastery [2] .
In 1774 he was appointed synodal sacristan , but, due to illness, he refused this position and was appointed hegumen in the Bogolyubov monastery of the Vladimir diocese [2] .
February 9, 1775 due to illness, he was fired to rest in the Zlatoust monastery and remained there until the end of his life [2] .
