Features
BTR-90 is equipped with an automatic hydromechanical reverse gearbox , independent suspension of all-wheel drive with all-wheel drive . Armor, compared with the BTR-80 , was significantly strengthened. Significantly improved mine protection, in particular, the bottom of the machine has a V-shape - more resistant to shock waves than a traditional flat.
Armament stationed in the fighting compartment is stabilized in two planes. This allows you to fire in motion over rough terrain. Despite the fact that the BTR-90 is heavier and larger in comparison with the BTR-80, it is much more maneuverable than its predecessors. So, the car can turn on the spot - this is possible due to the rotation of the wheels of different sides in opposite directions (like a tank).
The machine is equipped with an on-board information management system (CIUS).
Significantly increased firepower. Basic armament consists of:
- Automatic 30mm 2A42 gun (500 rounds)
- Automatic grenade launcher AGS-17 (400 shots)
- 7.62 mm PKT machine gun (2000 rounds)
- ATGM Competition-M (four ATGMs)
The design allows the installation of more powerful weapons, in particular a 100 and 125-mm gun. The BTRZ-42 combined day and night sight and 1P-13 day sight were installed on the BTR. The machine has a system of protection against the damaging factors of weapons of mass destruction .
Modifications
- BTR-90 "Rostock" - a modification of the BTR-90 with a 30-mm automatic cannon 2A42 , 7.62-mm machine gun PKTM , automatic grenade launcher AGS-17 and anti-tank complex "Competition-M" , not equipped with a control system and a thermal imager. [6]
- BTR-90 "Berezhok" - a modification of the BTR-90 with a fighting compartment " Berezhok ", which includes a 30mm 2A42 automatic gun, a 7.62mm PKTM machine gun, an AGS-30 automatic grenade launcher and the Kornet anti-tank system, equipped with a control system and a thermal imager . [6]
- BTR-90M - modification of the BTR-90. A “ Bahcha-U ” combat compartment was installed, which includes a 100 mm 2A70 gun, 30 mm 2A72 gun, 7.62 mm PKTM machine gun, 9M117M1 Arkan or 9K117 Agona anti-tank system; equipped with an OMS and a thermal imager. [6]
BTR-90 based vehicles
BMM "Tendon"
Multipurpose armored medical vehicle (BMM). The development of the machine was started on June 1, 1997 according to the contract No. NTK / 2/459. The developer was LLC Pribor-Kontrol. The contract provided for the following terms for the development of the machine [7] :
- Draft design: from June to December 1997;
- Technical project: from December 1997 to September 1998 ;
- Development of design documentation for a prototype: from October 1998 to June 1999 ;
- Creation of a prototype and its preliminary tests: from July 1999 to June 2000 ;
- State tests: from July 2000 to March 2001 ;
- Development of design documentation based on the results of state tests: from April 2001 to December 2001.
At the stage of manufacturing the prototype and conducting preliminary tests, OOO Pribor-Kontrol did not meet the deadlines. As a result, the deadlines for the completion of the phase were shifted to March 2006 . However, on May 31, 2006, at the meeting, it was decided to close the project, justifying that the continuation of this topic in connection with the delay of time is impractical [7] .
MZ-187
Project 120 mm SAO based on the BTR-90. It was developed in a special design bureau of Motovilikhinsky Plants OJSC . The project provided for the placement of the combat compartment of the SAO 2S31 Vienna on the GAZ-5923 chassis. However, during the implementation of the technical proposal stage, the inexpediency of installing a fully-equipped combat compartment with 2C31 was revealed. The main reasons were the limited horizontal guidance angles due to the low stability of the chassis, the small ammunition load and a slight advantage compared to the previously developed SAO 2C23 Nona-SVK . Work on this project was discontinued [8] .
Armed
- Russia : BTR-90 adopted by the Armed Forces by order of the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation No. 324 of June 9, 2008, becoming the first new Russian wheeled armored personnel carrier, adopted since the creation of the Russian army [9] . As of June 2009, the troops were absent, with the exception of the experimental batch, since until recently the defense order included only the production of the BTR-80A [10] . In connection with the revision of the weapons concept of the Russian Armed Forces, the actual deployment of weapons is in question; The development of a conceptually new APC has begun.
- In October 2011, the Russian Ministry of Defense refused to purchase the BTR-90 and did not include them in the list of state weapons programs until 2020 , and also refused to export this BTR. [eleven]
Replacement
In 2009 - 2010 , the design bureau of the Arzamas Engineering Plant began developing a new armored personnel carrier "Gilza" based on the BTR-90. In accordance with the new requirements of the customer, the armored personnel carrier must be arranged with the MTO in the front of the vehicle and the airborne compartment in the stern , which will strengthen the protection and improve the conditions for the landing (an example is a Finnish armored personnel carrier Patria ). It is planned to make a deep unification with the BMP-3 M power plant, weapons, a single on-board information control system, a car reservation system and other improvements [12] [13] .
