The river got its name in honor of Charles Buller, a member of parliament and director of the New Zealand Company, founded in the early 1800s by New Zealand and the United Kingdom. The company received the Royal Charter of Great Britain, giving the right to colonize New Zealand and the development of the islands [3] .

Usage
In Buller Gorge, the longest suspension bridge in New Zealand is laid across the river - 110 meters of metal cables and nets support the bridge and provide safe passage over the canyon at an altitude of 17 meters.
