Capilla Flamenca (cf. Latin “Flemish chapel”) is a Belgian ensemble of ancient music. The ensemble worked in 1993-2013 and specialized in Franco-Flemish polyphony . Capilla Flamena was headquartered in Leuven . The ensemble was led by singer and musicologist Dirk Snelling (1959-2014).
Brief
The core of the ensemble consisted of four singers - Marnix de Cat (countertenor), Tore Tom Denys (tenor; in 2006 he was replaced by Jan Caals), Lieven Termont (baritone) and Dirk Snelling (bass), who led the ensemble, including selecting the repertoire and the editors of vocal scores for the performance — deciphering the old notation , striving for a reasoned interpretation of “random” signs of alteration (musica ficta), striving for a single and “authentic” chant of vocal texts depending on the time and place of creation of the play, etc. As necessary, the main line-up expanded due to session singers and instrumentalists, including vocal ensembles (chamber choirs) Psallentes , Schola Gregoriana Lovaniensis , Schola Gregoriana Pragensis , ensembles of ancient instruments Flanders Recorder Quartet , Oltremontano , La Caccia , Piffaro .
The repertoire of Capilla Flamenca was dominated by Franco-Flemish vocal music of the XV — XVI centuries - the famous Pierre de la Rue , Josquin Depre , Henrik Isaac , Jacob Obrecht , Adrian Villart , Orlando Lasso , as well as more rare and little-performed authors - Alexander Agricola , Alexander Utendal , Clement-not-Papa , Johannes Brassart, Johannes Prioris, Lambert de Sayve, Jean de Castro and others. In addition, Capilla Flamenca included music from the periods Ars nova and Ars subtilior in thematic programs.
The ensemble toured Europe, participated in international festivals of early music in Ambron (2006) [1] , in Utrecht (2005) [2] , in Sent (2007) [3] , performed at the Vienna Konzerthaus and Amsterdam Consertgebou .
