Etymology

The name Tukituki is translated into Russian as "demolish", presumably due to the strength of the river flow. According to the Maori legend, at the southern end of the river there are two tanishvas who fought for the deceased boy who fell into the lake. It was believed that the struggle of the two Tanishvas divided one river into two rivers - the Weipawa River and the Tukituki River, so the lake was withered [1] .
